Hon. Mayor and Commissioners,
City of DeLand,
120 S. Florida Ave.,
DeLand, FLA 32720.

To the Commission:

Staff is advising a scheme where each person maintaining his property shall pay a minimum of $80 to some hanger-on who gets to decide whether his improvement is sufficiently quaint.

At the outset, we must understand that the approval of the City’s designated bureaucratic hanger-on adds no value whatsoever to the property. His imprimatur will not make the roof last one day longer, nor will it in any wise renew the paint. His bureaucratic blessing won’t re-seal the driveway, nor replace aging fascia, nor clean the cobwebs out from under the soffits.

In fact, the proposed tax increases will add no value whatsoever to the property. All it does is feed a growing ‘‘quaintness’’ bureaucracy, who according to the evidence are unable to find sufficient productive work.

I suggest that we let them starve.

Yours,

Tanner Andrews
